Ataru “Roy” Nakano, his wife, Yukie and their children ran a nursery at 897 75th Ave., Oakland beginning in 1938. They had previously operated nurseries on 76th Ave. and at 2238 73rd Ave. The nursery at 75th Ave. operated at this location until the property was bought by the City of Oakland for a BART parking lot.
